In 1989 they subscribed, along with other Lebanese parties, the Taif agreement, which would begin the end of the civil war. Finally, in 2000, Israel retired all the troops from the south of Lebanon, under the international border. Since the beginning of the conflicts many governments have tried to stabilize the political as well as the social situation of the country. The insecurity this situation placed in the minds of its inhabitants has left a visible scar in the way the different communities still see each other. All those different governments have tried to reconstruct the country since the war ended, but failed to alleviate the situation.
